Warming Up a Winter Sell

Sellers are often concerned about listing their home during the winter. Traditionally, the peak buying season occurs during spring and summer months. Here are some tips to warm prospective buyers during the more droll winter months:

  1. If the weather outside is frightful, make sure your home is delightful. When buyers are scheduled to view the house, make sure the temperature inside is comfortable.
  2. Simple but inviting décor can help a buyer visualize the home's potential. Even simple touches like a well set dining table or elegantly trimmed mantle can inspire buyers. Staging a vacant home to accent its finer qualities can diminish the empty feeling of unoccupied space.
  3. If your home has a gas fireplace or insert, ignite it before buyers arrive to view the home. This can be a very charming element, and adds warmth to the home in contrast to the weather outside. Traditional fireplaces can be staged as well.
  4. Vacant homes that are warm and well lit when a potential buyer arrives to view the home can entice the buyer to give a home more consideration as well.
  5. Either vacant or occupied, homes that are clean and clutter free will help attract potential buyers. Also make sure that driveways and walkways are clear of ice, snow and other debris.

A home that is warm and inviting and offers easy and safe accessibility is more likely to be viewed favorably by potential buyers.
